The day was chosen by the United Nations General Assembly when it adopted Resolution 60/7 in 2005 to commemorate the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism. The date serves as a solemn reminder of the atrocities committed during the Holocaust and is an opportunity for the world to reaffirm its commitment to preventing genocide and combating antisemitism, racism and hatred in all forms.![]()
