National Women’s Day 9 August 2024
WIZO Women Always Step Up!
Friday, the 9th of August is National Women’s Day! A day that celebrates us as the strong, kind and caring women that we are!
All of you play an integral role in supporting our phenomenal Women’s International Zionist Organisation (WIZO). Your hearts beat for WIZO as you strongly believe in our ideologies of providing leading transformative initiatives that promote social resilience and gender equality for those who need it most in our beloved Israel. And, because of this, we continue to work tirelessly to advance the rights of women and their well-being by standing up for those in need and by always doing what matters.
Israeli women have shown their fighting spirit as they continue to maintain their homes whilst their spouses have been serving in the IDF. Their fortitude and strength in holding the fort has been nothing short of extra ordinary. Our WIZO women have been there every step of the way by providing the support that they need in the form of strengthening their resilience and by giving them couples, children and family therapy. Another example of valour and resolve are the women in our day care and youth centres. They, as the educators, bring a comforting and nurturing sense of safety to the children that they care for when the world around them is so unpredictable and volatile. These, and so many others, are the women that we celebrate on this Women’s Day!
We reflect on the progress that has been made by these women and by WIZO as they all continue to display acts of courage and determination. WIZO is at the forefront of forging positive change whilst challenging gender stereotypes, calling out discrimination and drawing attention to bias. We are a strong and resilient organisation that seeks inclusion and equality for women, and we will stand behind them every step of the way!
As we acknowledge this Women’s Day, appreciate the women in your life and celebrate the beauty, grace and strength of all women and remember to be kind and gentle to yourselves.
WIZO South Africa joins me in thanking you for playing your part in ensuring the continuation and viability of our organisation. We are truly blessed to be a part of something so special and so powerful!
Am Yisrael Chai.
Warm regards
Shelley Trope-Friedman
President WIZO South Africa
